The zakat institution is a medium for equalizing the income of the people with great potential. Zakat is a medium to improve the standard of living. Thus the management of zakat funds should be maximized for the economic empowerment of the people. So far, although the issue of zakat has been repeatedly discussed and presented by various organizations, institutions and agencies, the study from the perspective of economic empowerment of the people seems to have not been maximized. Whereas in the life of the nation and state, zakat is not only interpreted theologically, namely as a manifestation of individual obedience to God, but must also be interpreted socio-economically, namely as a mechanism for distributing wealth. In other words, besides cleaning the soul and cleaning the property itself, zakat is also a powerful means of equalization in the economic life of the people.
